Graduate Student Scholarship Recipients
Congratulations to Tasneem Sah and Toni Curso, our 2007 graduate student scholarship recipients for the ICDC conference in Sacramento. Both Tasneem and Toni were awarded ICDC registration fee reimbursement, and Tasneem also received two nights accommodations to attend the conference. Here are their individual perspectives on critical competencies career counselors will need to help lead the profession into the future:

Toni: I see that Career Counselors will continue to need to know not only career counseling, but also how to counsel our clients through the life and mental distress that encompasses so much of an individual's world. Counselors must be prepared to assist those with the major life issues including career and mental health. Also, counselors must continue to be multi-cultural and diversity sensitive.

Tasneem: I see the need for more group and individual guidance for students transitioning from high schools and new freshmen entering college. More and more students are coming in undecided of their goals or knowing their interests. Students either manage to complete their GE requirements and transfer or they could possibly drop out because of a lack of guidance. I feel that if individuals are given the opportunity to work with Career Counselors to see what options they have, there is a better chance of retention in schools and colleges.
